Sport The Unexpected With This Iconic '90s Sneaker

14 March 2019

Everything's coming up the '90s. From hair scrunchies to biker shorts to windbreakers, this season's hottest fashion trends are definitely cueing nostalgia. As self-proclaimed shoe junkies, naturally, there's no other throwback that we're more excited about than sneakers. One pair that's currently on our radar is the Reebok Aztrek ($130).

Combining impeccable comfort and Reebok's 90's spirit, the newly updated sneaker is now available in two unisex colourways.

Made with chunky soles and vibrant panelling, this sneaker is perfect for unafraid, conventional-defying individuals. “I was just trying to be intuitive and figure out where I could go with footwear design," said sneaker designer Christian Tresser, who designed the shoe in 1993, as he reflected recently on his memories of designing the Aztrek. In celebration of the unexpected and bold, Reebok's new campaign Storm the Court kicks off with Storm the Court, a short film that features an unexpected guest who interrupts a pick-up basketball game wearing the trailblazing sneakers.

“With this campaign, we’re showing another side of Reebok,” said Melanie Boulden, Reebok’s Global Head of Marketing and Brand Management. “A side the consumer hasn’t seen in quite some time. These are young people who love to be active, love to be stylish. They want to mix it up and call their own shots. They want to do – and wear – what’s unexpected. And, most importantly, they want to be entertained – and this campaign certainly delivers on that.” We don't know about you, but that's totally up our alley.

In case you find effortlessly styling sneakers a bit difficult it's because it comes with practice and strategizing. The key is to plan your outfit from the feet up: choose the pair you want to wear and build your look accordingly. If the shoes are on the louder side like the Balenciaga Green Triple S Sneakers ($1,430), we suggest doing some colour-blocking or keep the look as minimal as possible. Or if your trainers are more versatile like the Aztreks or the Nike Air Max Dia SE ($155), don't be afraid to man repel the shit out of your look.
